MTV is remaking 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show"!

Yes its true. It has been announced that MTV in the U.S. and Sky Movies in the U.K. are set to co-finance the remake of the 1975 classic, to be released in October 2009. The remake will feature new music and songs with the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien. The production is set to be overseen by Lou Adler, the executive producer on the original, though the director and cast are yet to be announced.
Rocky horrors original creator, Richard O'Brien has said "I won't be involved in any way. The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from U.S. papers." when asked about rumors about him co-producing the new movie, adding "It doesn't have my blessing," he said. "I don't know where they'll go with it really. ... I've even heard that they're going to put new songs in. I wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Where are they going to get the songs from? Who's going to do that? That's a bit strange isn't it?"

I first heard about this while watching something on payTV when an add came on about it. At first I thought it might be interesting and I wouldn't mind having a look at it when it came out, then I saw that it was MTV would be responsible for it. I dont see how this could seem like a good idea to anyone, except the movie bosses hoping to cash in on the original movies popularity.
I'm not the only person that feels this way either, there are actually a few patitions on the internet wanting to stop the remake all together.

Anyway I would be interested to see what you guys have to say about it.
